In 2010 when Michele Obama said that “American Children should eat less junk food”. Many opposed her. “Get your damn hands off my fries, lady” said a republic fox news reporter. Robert Kenndy has been appointed as minister of health and human services. It means he is in charge of over 12 governmental agencies in the United States dealing with health and disease. The most important ones are FDA (Food and Drug Administration), CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) and CMS (Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
The idea that Americans should eat whatever they want and it is none of government business to interfere in this affair has been promoted by Republicans for a long time. Mr. Kennedy is somewhat controversial regarding this matter. From one perspective he is much like Michele Obama. He has repeatedly criticized big pharmaceutical and food corporations. It is dangerous to place a conspiracy theorist who rejects vaccines in charge of America’s health policy and the largest federal budget department. However, Mr. Kennedy, who waxes poetic about regenerative farming and refers to ultra-processed foods as “poison,” supports some causes that liberals have traditionally supported. These approaches are somewhat close to Michele Obama’s quote that American Children should eat less junk food.
Mr. Kennedy has argued that Medicaid should pay for gym memberships and health food, and he has criticized the FDA for “suppressing” alternative cures, ranging from the goofy to the deadly. He advocates for “preventive, alternative, and holistic” medicines to get half of the National Institutes of Health’s research budget. Additionally, he wants to legalize psychedelics for therapeutic purposes.
