The article discusses the liveability of cities in Australia as ranked by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Australia boasts sunny weather, great food, and beautiful beaches, but it also has some of the world’s most dangerous wildlife. Despite this, three Australian cities rank among the top five in the Asia-Pacific for liveability: Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide. Melbourne retains its title as the best city in the region, although it, along with Sydney, experienced a slight decline in the global rankings due to housing shortages. Perth and Brisbane were noted but did not make the top five.

The rankings evaluate 173 cities worldwide based on culture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and stability. All Australian cities scored 100 for education and healthcare, with high scores in other categories. In contrast, cities like those in Cambodia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, and Sri Lanka rank as the worst in Asia due to poor healthcare and infrastructure. The overall liveability score for the Asia-Pacific region increased slightly, though it remains lower than that of Western Europe and North America.
