Interest in generative AI tools has surged in recent years, particularly following the launch of OpenAI’s innovative chatbot, ChatGPT.
Not only has there been a dramatic increase in search interest for AI, but the number of AI patents has also grown significantly since 2020.
While many new companies are entering the generative AI sector, a few stand out in terms of popularity. A recent graphic highlights the 15 most visited generative AI tools based on web traffic from March 2024.
The data is sourced from a World Bank policy research paper titled “Who on Earth is Using Generative AI?” by Yan Liu and He Wang. ChatGPT dominates the generative AI market, capturing a remarkable 82.5% of total web traffic among the 40 tools analyzed in the study. In March 2024, ChatGPT was the only generative AI tool to surpass 1 billion website visits, and by August 2024, OpenAI reported over 200 million active weekly users for ChatGPT.
Runway, supported by investors such as Google and Nvidia, is the only AI video generation company to make the top 15. Its latest model, Gen-3 Alpha, launched in June.
